Development Blog Week 1-3 - Total War Saga Troy

Welcome to my first Development blog regarding Total War Saga: Troy! These first weeks were mainly research into the Trojan era in c.1200BC. In the following post I will be outlining what I have learnt as well as justifications as to what I will be making for the upcoming DLC for Total War Saga: Troy.

Firstly, after trying multiple other blogging sites I finally decided to use Blogger as I thought it would be the best platform to portray my ideas in the best possible way, it is very easy to use and will be perfect to keep track of development over the upcoming weeks.

For my discipline I have decided to create a level containing a detailed Trojan gatehouse as well as a city wall which is connected via two mountains either side, meaning this Trojan gatehouse will be in between a mountain pass. My artefact has been highly inspired by Total War Saga: Troy and other ancient era Total War games and I have done research into what they would look like, below is a picture from Total War Saga: Troy that I have been inspired from. I am also going to be creating a large reinforced wooden door that will have be used to allow troops, trade and civilians in and out of the city. I am also going to be creating a layering of two walls, however one of them is going to be higher than the other, as this would let archers stand on both layers to shoot down from the mountain pass. This allows them to protect their city walls. This would be a new end game feature within the newest Total War Saga: Troy DLC, as these walls would be the most expensive to reinforce a city with due to the expense of stone, bronze and gold resources that are already present within the game.

There is speculation whether the city of Troy as well as the Trojan Wars took place. However Homer (an ancient historian) wrote a poem, 'The Iliad' in Troy around 3000 years ago. Below is the City of Troy by an artist who used
'The Iliad' to make a recreation of the city. I used this second hand research to get inspiration for my Trojan city.

The movie Troy (2004) has an iconic scene of the walls of Troy. This movie has largely inspired my idea for my level as it contains the higher level wall allowing for more soldiers to be on the walls. However this feature (even though it may not be historically accurate) is not a feature within A Total War Saga: Troy.

The walls of Troy were supposed to be impregnable. It is said that there was no way to capture Troy.

Next week I will be starting pre-production and will be blocking out my level in preparation for full production of my level. I will also be continuing my research into Total War Saga: Troy as well as the era.
